Tammy Buffkin opened Pointe of Promise Dance Studio in 2006, after years of teaching dance at other local studios. She felt that there was a real need for a conservative, classic ballet school in the area that was also affordable. Although the first year's classes concentrated primarily on Homeschooled children with a full range of daytime classes, the interest from other families has made it possible to offer later afternoon and early evening classes.
Tammy is committed to keeping tuition prices low, costumes modest and affordable, and dance instruction conservatively choreographed. She is actively looking to advance the instruction methods she uses and has begun to use the international Tap Syllabus of Glenn Wood Tap and a complete ballet curriculum which focuses on technique and style while remaining enjoyable for her students.
Located in Historic Downtown Hopewell, the studio is easy to get to from the Tri-City area, Richmond, and surrounding counties.
Kelly Sharpe has been an instructor with Pointe of Promise since its inception in 2006. She previously had years of dance instruction in ballet, tap, and jazz, and was a competitive clogger in the area for a number of years, winning several competitions.
Kelly's specialties are clogging and tap. She strives to make learning to dance fun, using a variety of music from country to pop...but only with suitable lyrics. Clogging is great fun for men and women, boys and girls, and is a wonderful form of cardiovascular exercise.
